Apple’s $95m siri lawsuit settlement: What It means for user privacy
Tech giant faces renewed scrutiny over Siri’s accidental recordings as users prepare to file claims before the July 2025 deadline.

Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit claiming its Siri voice assistant recorded private conversations without user consent. Although the company denies any wrongdoing, it opted to settle to avoid drawn-out court proceedings.
The lawsuit, originally filed by California resident Fumiko Lopez, alleges that Siri-enabled devices were triggered unintentionally and recorded sensitive user information. Plaintiffs argue that these voice snippets were shared with third parties, violating users’ privacy rights.
The case covers a broad range of devices—including iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs—used between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024. U.S. users who believe Siri was activated during confidential moments can now submit claims for compensation.
How to Claim
Eligible users can file claims through the official website:

Each person can claim up to five devices, receiving $20 per device, with a maximum payout of $100. The deadline for filing is July 2, 2025, and the final court approval hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2025.
The case has reignited concerns over how tech companies handle user data and the potential for “always-listening” devices to violate personal privacy. Experts argue that more robust transparency and opt-out features are needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
While the settlement amount may seem small on an individual level, the case represents a significant milestone in holding tech firms accountable for privacy breaches—especially those involving artificial intelligence and voice recognition tools.
