Tributes pour in for American rapper DMX

The rap icon died at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York. His death came one week after he suffered a heart attack

Tributes have begun pouring in for American legendary rapper and actor Earl Simmons, popularly known as DMX, who has passed away on 9 April 2021.

The rap icon died at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York. His death came one week after he suffered a heart attack.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him,” the family statement said.

It added: “Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.

“Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

Cause of death

On 3 April, his lawyer Murray Richman, confirmed DMX was on life support. Later that day, Richman stated he was off life support and breathing on his own, but later clarified that evening that Simmons remained on life support and he had been given wrong information.

His manager, Steve Rifkind, stated Simmons was comatose and that he was set to undergo tests to determine his brain’s functionality which would allow his family to determine what’s best from there.

But the unfortunate happened on Thursday April 9,2021. Simmons was reported to have lost functionality in multiple essential organs, including his lungs leading to his demise.

Career

DMX had a profound impact on the music industry bringing new dynamics to the rap genre with his albums like “Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood” and “it’s Dark”. Throughout his career, DMX worked with some of the A-list artists across the world from Jay-Z through to Aaliyah and also featured in numerous movies, including Belly, Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds.
According to reports, He had inter marriages but left behind 15 fifteen Children.

Many celebrities especially in the music industry have taken to their social media handles to pay tribute to him upon hearing the sad news.

Senegalese-American rapper, Akon wrote on Twitter:
“#RIPDMX Thank you for the Good music , you’ll be missed. ”Grammy Award winning rapper Chance the Rapper also wrote “Rest in Heaven DMX”

Bruno Mars eulogised DMX with a picture of the rapper holding a microphone engaging an audience.

DMX will be highly remembered for his contribution to the music industry.
