Akufo-Addo welcomes ICC appointment for Valentina Mintah

The appointment makes Valentina Mintah the first black female to be elected to the ICC executive board in the organisation’s hundred years of existence

Ghana News Agency (Accra) — President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday congratulated Valentina Mintah, the founder and former chief executive of West Blue Consulting, on her appointment as a member of the executive board of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

President Akufo-Addo has assured her of the government’s full support.

The ICC is the world’s largest business organisation, representing 45 million companies and a billion employees from all sectors and company sizes in over 130 countries.

In his congratulatory letter, President Akufo-Addo praised Mintah’s achievement, promising her the government’s support. He urged her not to hesitate to contact any agency of the state for any assistance she may require.

Promoting trade

“I write to congratulate you warmly, on behalf of the government of the people of Ghana, and my behalf, on this outstanding achievement,” the president said. “It is a tribute to black women the world over, particularly to Ghanaians and African women.

“I am glad to note that your personal mandate for this role will be to use ICT platforms to drive the promotion of trade between Ghana and international economies, further cementing Ghana’s economic potential among global partners.

“This is very laudable, and you can be assured of the full support of the government to this end.”

The ICC executive board is responsible for developing and implementing the Chamber’s strategy, policy and programme of action, and for overseeing the financial affairs of the world business organisation.

The seven-member executive board was announced at the 2020 meeting of the ICC World Council. Mintah will be on the board with some of the world’s most prominent planners and pioneers of trade, including Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammad Al-Thani of Qatar, Sebastian Escarrer of Spain, Dario Gallina of Italy, Shinta Kamdani of Indonesia, Takeshi Niinami of Japan and Jane Sun from China.

The 2020 meeting of the ICC World Council also announced that it had elected MasterCard’s chief executive officer, Ajay Banga, as ICC chairman and confirmed Maria Fernanda Garza, chief executive of Orestia, as the Council’s first vice-chair.
