Battor chieftaincy dispute: Ablakwa warns factions against reprisal attacks
The police have restored order in Battor in the Volta Region and arrested at least 15 suspects in connection with a violent chieftaincy dispute which resulted in the death of five people and injury to others
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has advised factions in the Battor chieftaincy dispute to desist from engaging in reprisal attacks and show confidence in the investigation process.
At least five people were killed and 15 injured in violence surrounding a chieftaincy dispute in Battor in the Volta Region about two weeks ago.
In a Facebook post, Ablakwa who visited the families of those who lost their lives, assured them that justice will be served.
“It’s been a really distressing day visiting families of the five constituents who lost their lives in the recent Battor chieftaincy dispute,” he wrote.
“I urged all to have confidence in ongoing investigations and not to engage in reprisal attacks. Victims deserve justice; Battor deserves peace,” Ablakwa said.

The Ghana Police Service restored order in Battor in the Volta Region and arrested at least 15 suspects in connection with violence related to a chieftaincy dispute which resulted in the deaths of five people and injury to others.
The injured are responding to treatment and the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Battor Government Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation, a statement issued by the police said.
The police have so far retrieved two locally manufactured single-barrel guns, one locally manufactured pistol and a live BB cartridge from the suspects.
Security has since been beefed up in Battor township and surrounding communities, while the 15 suspects are in custody assisting investigations, the police said.
