Sheryl Lee Ralph honoured with Hollywood Walk of Fame star
Best known for her work on popular TV shows including Moesha, Instant Mom, It’s a Living, and the hit comedy Abbott Elementary, Ralph was celebrated for her decades of excellence in television and theatre.

Award-winning actress and trailblazing performer, Sheryl Lee Ralph, has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, becoming the 2,808th person to receive the prestigious recognition.
Best known for her work on popular TV shows including Moesha, Instant Mom, It’s a Living, and the hit comedy Abbott Elementary, Ralph was celebrated for her decades of excellence in television and theatre.
The accolade was presented by officials from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce during a well-attended ceremony on Wednesday (16 April 2025).
In her emotional speech, Ralph expressed heartfelt gratitude and paid tribute to those who came before her, saying, “I want generations to see what’s possible, that their dreams are valid. That their voice is powerful and their potential limitless.”
Reflecting on her journey, the actress shared the challenges she faced in an industry that wasn’t always welcoming: “I have been counted out, I have been passed over, I have been told I was too Black, too strong, and too much. And yet, here I stand.”
Ralph’s story is one of resilience, particularly inspiring for many young African girls and women dreaming of careers in entertainment. She reminded her audience of the value of holding on to bold dreams, even when they’re not easily understood or accepted.
Fellow actress Loretta Devine, who shared the Broadway stage with Ralph in the iconic Dreamgirls musical, described her as someone who “gets things done” and praised her enduring strength and presence. Meanwhile, Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson referred to Ralph as a “masterclass” in grace and legend, calling her “our star”.
Sheryl Lee Ralph’s star now stands as a symbol not only of fame but of perseverance, authenticity and unwavering pride in her identity.
