Shama Omanhene rallies community support for completion of Etsifi Community Centre

Omanhene Osagyefo Kwaw Fraiku IV, President of the Shama Traditional Council, has called for unity and collective responsibility in advancing development projects within the community.

He stressed that the success and growth of Shama depend on the active involvement of all stakeholders.

The Omanhene recently invited the Etsifi Assemblyman, Justice Kobina Junior, to provide an update on the long-delayed Etsifi Community Centre project.

The facility, which has been stalled for nearly a decade, remains a key priority for the traditional council under his leadership.

According to Osagyefo Kwaw Fraiku IV, financing for the project has largely come from the council’s royalties, with significant personal and institutional support. He himself contributed GH¢100,000, which was matched by the Volta River Authority (VRA).

The Member of Parliament for Shama, Emelia Arthur, added GHC50,000, while Lower Pra contributed GHC20,000. Community members also raised almost GHC3,000, bringing the total fund to approximately GHC273,000.

The Omanhene, however, expressed concern that progress has been slower than expected, noting that the Assemblyman had earlier requested a budget of GH¢300,000 to complete the project.

He urged assembly members to proactively engage local companies for additional support but emphasised that such appeals should first be coordinated with Nananom (traditional leaders) and made on official traditional council letterheads. This, he explained, would strengthen partnerships and ensure companies recognise their role in the community’s development.

In response, Hon. Justice Kobina Junior assured residents that the community centre is about 70% complete. He acknowledged the critical contributions of the Omanhene, VRA, the MP, Lower Pra, and other supporters in pushing the project forward.

He encouraged residents to remain engaged and committed to the initiative, adding that its completion would serve as a symbol of shared purpose and collaboration in the Shama community.
