NLA to introduce reforms to enhance productivity

During a tour of the National Lottery Authority offices in the Volta Region, the new boss Sammi Awuku promised to grow the outfit

The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, has reiterated his commitment to enhance operational excellence and aggressively grow the outfit.

In view of this, plans are far advanced to introduce several reforms, some of which have been tabled before the board of the Authority for approval. One of such reforms is the implementation of the reviewed public services commission document on staff promotion and conditions of service.

Awuku was speaking during a surprise working visit to some of the municipal and local district offices of the NLA in the Volta Region.

Addressing the staff of the Hohoe municipal office, Awuku gave the assurance that the current leadership of the Authority will soon turn the fortunes of the organisation around.

“I am targeting one thing only and that’s how to make situations better at the authority because the president brought me here to make things better. There is something I can assure you, and that’s there’s going to be a new arrangement with the operators of our online systems. Another thing I can assure is that we have a streamlined system for all of us to engage,” he said.

Awuku cautioned private lottery operatives to acquire licences since the authority will in the coming days clamp down on the activities of individuals who fail to comply by the directive.

He said: “I’m sure you all have friends who are private operators. Please encourage them to apply for their licence because if they don’t and our deadline elapses, we have an arrangement with the security forces and we’ll come after such persons.”

Touching on pervasiveness of numerous fraudsters who are purporting to be agents of the authority and scamming innocent citizens with the promise of leaking lucky numbers to them, Awuku cautioned such persons to desist from the act since any person or group of persons found culpable will be made to face the full rigours of the law.
