Senegalese President: We must continue to act in solidarity and make the necessary reforms within ECOWAS

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited the Ivory Coast on Tuesday (7 May) and met with his Ivorian counterpart, Alassane Ouattara, to discuss strengthening West African ties.

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visited Côte d’Ivoire on Tuesday (7 May) and met with his Ivorian counterpart, Alassane Ouattara, to discuss strengthening West African ties.

The leaders discussed various issues, from regional stability to economic cooperation, focusing on enhancing agricultural and energy trade trade.

President Faye noted the importance of maintaining solidarity and creating the necessary reforms within the ECOWAS area. This is against the withdrawal of the Troika, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger from ECOWAS earlier this year in January.

Both presidents expressed their commitment to bolstering democratic values and regional cooperation.

President Ouattara showcased his support for the new Senegalese administration, emphasising both leaders’ shared vision for their countries and the broader West African community.

This meeting is part of President Faye’s broader tour across West Africa, which aims to reinforce Senegal’s diplomatic and economic relationships within the region.

The talks also covered the challenges of political integration and the need for preventive measures to ensure the stability of the regional union.
