NPP’s special delegates’ polls will be free and fair, says Nimako

At least 956 delegates are expected to vote in the party's special delegates' conference in all 16 regional capitals, with an additional voting centre at the NPP head office in Accra

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said adequate measures have been instituted to ensure a free, fair and transparent election in the party’s super delegates’ conference on Saturday (26 August).

At least 956 delegates are expected to vote in the party’s special delegates’ conference in all 16 regional capitals, with an additional voting centre at the NPP head office in Accra to pick the top five presidential candidates in the first round of votes.

This includes representatives from various party entities, including the national council, national executive committee (NEC), all regional executive committees, all members of the national council of elders, MPs, three representatives of each of the special organs of the party, past national officers, three representatives each from every external branch (27 branches in all), founder members during the registration of the party at the Electoral Commission.

Appearing on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (22 August), the director of elections of the NPP, Evans Nimako said: “Fears expressed by some of the concerned stakeholders have been addressed.”

“I can assure you that the openness, the fairness and level playground provided, the level on engagement initiated by the committee to have a discussion with the EC, police and presidential aspirants all together will tell you that, the party is ready to conduct an exercise that is free and fair and transparent,” he said.

“And all stakeholders will appreciate the extent to which we carried this process so far, we are only appealing to stakeholders to ensure full compliance of the guidelines, rules and regulations of the party,” Nimako added.
