Constable Ernest Newton Dwamena died on the spot while on traffic control duty after the lorry driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle

A truck driver has crushed a policeman on duty to death in Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, an official statement said.

The police constable, Ernest Newton Dwamena, formerly with the regional operations department, died on the spot while on traffic control duty after the truck driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle.

The incident occurred on Wednesday 29 September 2021.

The police statement said the deputy Savannah regional police commander, DCOP Ebenezer Larbi, has since visited Dwamena’s family in Kintampo in the Bono East Region to commiserate with them.

The acting Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has reportedly reached out to the family of the policeman by phone and extended the condolences of the police administration to them.

The police leadership has given firm assurances that the circumstances leading to the death of the officer will be investigated thoroughly.
