Police: We’ll not allow hooligans to continue to kill us

The police say they will continue to use legitimate means to serve and protect the citizenry

The Ghana Police Service says it will not allow hooligans to continue to maim and kill its officers who are genuinely performing their mandates.

Speaking with Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (31 January), ACP Kwasi Ofori, the director general of the public affairs department of the Ghana Police Service said, it is unacceptable for criminals to continue to kill officers in the line of duty.

ACP Ofori said the police will continue to use legitimate means to wade off criminals and protect citizens.

He said, “The police will not permit itself by hooligans, criminals to inflict injuries and death on our men. It happened about three weeks ago in Berekum where a suspect also killed one Sargent Annobil.

“This kind of thing, we need the citizens to also respect the police because we are in to serve and protect and, therefore, [there are] no grounds for such actions against our officers.”

ACP Ofori was speaking on the back of last Friday’s attack on a police officer at a police station in Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
