Sammy Gyamfi apologises as “private act of kindness” to “Agradaa” sparks backlash

Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has issued a public apology after facing significant backlash over a video showing him donating US dollars to former fetish priestess-turned-evangelist, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa.

The video, which surfaced on social media, shows Gyamfi handing over the cash during an event. The gesture has sparked widespread criticism, particularly from political supporters and members of the public who have expressed dismay over his association with the controversial figure.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (11 May), Gyamfi described the donation as a “private act of kindness,” expressing regret that it had gone public. He acknowledged that he had not expected the act to attract such attention, calling it “unfortunate and regrettable.”

“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space,” Gyamfi wrote. “To all such comrades, I am sincerely sorry for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views.”

He further clarified that the donation was not politically motivated but was in line with his personal values of helping those in need.

“My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems, and help others has not changed. I remain focused on the task entrusted to me by His Excellency, the President, for the development of our country.”
