Samira Bawumia opens Global Energy Conference in Barbados, champions clean cooking and climate action

This year’s theme, “Sustainable Energy for Equity, Security, and Prosperity,” underscores the urgency of expanding energy access, meeting climate goals, and advancing sustainable development, particularly for vulnerable communities.

Her Excellency Mrs Samira Bawumia, Founder and Chair for the Africa Women and Children Conference (AFRIWOCC) and a global champion for sustainable energy and climate action, will officially open the “Powering Progress: How Mini-Grids, Clean Cooking, and Energy Planning Can Fast-Track SDG7” session at the 2025 SEforALL Global Forum in Barbados.

The forum, co-hosted by the Government of Barbados and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) on March 12–13, 2025, serves as a pivotal platform to accelerate investments, policies, and partnerships aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7)—universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy by 2030.

This year’s theme, “Sustainable Energy for Equity, Security, and Prosperity,” underscores the urgency of expanding energy access, meeting climate goals, and advancing sustainable development, particularly for vulnerable communities.

In her opening address, Mrs. Bawumia is expected to emphasize the crucial role of clean cooking solutions in the broader energy transition. She will highlight the need to integrate mini-grids with clean cooking initiatives, reduce reliance on traditional fuels, and ensure that energy policies prioritize health, gender equity, and environmental sustainability.

Additionally, she will call for stronger global collaboration and financing mechanisms to scale up clean energy adoption in underserved regions.

As a respected thought leader in energy and climate advocacy, Mrs. Bawumia has been a relentless champion of clean energy solutions. In 2019, she was recognized as the first of seven honourees at the prestigious Seven for 7 Awards by SEforALL and Ashden, a London-based charity, for her exceptional contributions to improving energy access.

She also serves as a Global Ambassador for the Clean Cooking Alliance and a Global Champion for the Clean Air Fund, the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Health and Energy Platform for Action, and other initiatives dedicated to enhancing the well-being of women and children.

Mrs. Bawumia’s participation in the 2025 SEforALL Global Forum reaffirms her unwavering commitment to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
