Running mate selection: Ignore petition by Patriotic Movement for Bawumia, says Nana B

The pro-NPP group argues it will be difficult to market Opoku Prempeh at the grassroots level because of his previous public utterances that do not sit well with the populace

The national organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye has described the petition by a group calling itself, the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia over the selection of Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate of the NPP presidential candidate as unnecessary.

The pro-NPP group argues it will be difficult to market Opoku Prempeh at the grassroots level because of his previous public utterances that do not sit well with the populace.

The group, comprising grassroots members, polling station agents, and constituency and regional executives, has disapproved of Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate, claiming he is not a humble candidate and citing his recent responses to the power crisis in the country.

“I think we need to ignore them, these are people who are unknown to the party, I don’t think they even warrant a discussion on your platform, let’s ignore them,” Boakye told the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (2 July).

“Anytime you have a new presidential candidate, and you are going to have a fresh running mate, you will certainly have people dissenting,” he told host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.

“Some openly, some may not do it openly. But in all of this, I think what every single person must exhibit is total support for the presidential candidate,” Boakye added.
