Robbers shoot ambulance driver carrying woman in labour

Armed robbers on Thursday attacked and shot an ambulance driver who was conveying a pregnant woman to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

The driver is said to be in critical condition and has been referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

It is believed that the ambulance with registration Number GV 644-20 bumped into a robbery operation on the Akuase Somanya road while speeding but the robbers opened fire on the driver and shot him in the head.

He was conveying a pregnant woman in labour from the Akuase Government Hospital to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.

Speaking with John Attafuah, Sgt Francis Gomado, PRO of the Eastern Regional Police confirmed the incident to Asaase News but said details would be provided later.
