Stonebwoy: Giving back to society not obligatory for all artists

Ghanaian dancehall superstar, Stonebwoy, has said that it is not compulsory for artists to take up corporate social responsibilities (CSRs).
Speaking on Yaad Settingz on Asaase 99.5 Accra with King Lagazee, Stonebwoy said, “As an artist who loves to be socially active, I don’t only use my music and voice, but I plan towards practicalising solutions to certain problems, but not everyone is obligated to do same.”
He added that it is important to value everyone’s life.
“This does not mean that I have so much in abundance, but this is coming from the core that makes me human,” he added.
Stonebwoy has a strong stance against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. He has spoken against the pollution of the Pra River and its negative impact on water resources for some six communities along the river bank in the Shama district of the Western Region.
Through his Livingstone Foundation, Stonebwoy donated 40,000-liter capacity mechanised boreholes for four of the six communities. The boreholes serve eight communities with treated water and can be connected to individual homes.
“Even if I don’t know enough about galamsey situations, we can all see the effect of it. I saw a whole river flow that looked like a cup of tea.
“So, I managed to raise funds and I hit the ground, and constructed a mechanised borehole reservoir that can filter the water of River Pra,”
