The First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo handed over a basic school she built through her Rebecca Foundation to the people of Wiaboman in the Weija Gbawe municipality of the Greater Accra Region on Friday (29 November).
The lack of a primary school in the Wiamboman community meant that children had to walk long distances to school in neighbouring communities.
The journey has been challenging for many children, leading to dropouts and a wide range of literacy gaps.
Akufo-Addo was determined to address the issue after her visit to the community in 2020 facilitated the construction of a primary school to serve the community.
At the inauguration of the school, the First Lady emphasised that providing a solid educational foundation is not solely the government’s duty but a connected responsibility.

She called on the residents to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on 7 December to ensure continuity and further development.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Weija Gbawe constituency, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, highlighted ongoing projects such as electricity, water, sea defence, and a health facility that has been provided by the NPP to the area.
He then used the opportunity to urge residents to support the NPP in the upcoming elections for continued progress.
In another engagement at the Botianor Ngleshie Amanfrom constituency, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Sylvester Tetteh, endorsing NPP flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia as Ghana’s next president, emphasised that the country needs a leader who will be accountable to the country even after the first term of office.
