Rawlings Foundation petitions Bagbin to investigate verbal attack on Zanetor

The Foundation expressed shock and dismay over unprintable remarks allegedly made by an NPP MP on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, 4 February 2025

The John Jerry Rawlings Foundation has petitioned Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to look into alleged offensive remarks made against Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle and the daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The Foundation expressed shock and dismay over unprintable remarks allegedly made by an NPP MP on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, 4 February 2025.

“Mr Speaker, these toxic and untruthful comments not only tarnish the dignity of Parliament but also damage the reputation of the entire nation,” the petition stated.

The foundation underlined that former President Rawlings was instrumental in establishing Ghana’s longest and most prosperous democratic era as the first President of the Fourth Republic.

Rawlings’ dedication to participatory leadership and his adamant anti-corruption stance won him recognition on a global scale.

“It is dishonest for anyone to attempt to diminish his legacy in a moment of reckless speech,” the petition added.

“Mr Speaker, it is disheartening and disturbing that the very House expected to safeguard the legacy of past leaders is now the stage for such abuse and offensive behaviour.”

Additionally, the Foundation defended Agyeman-Rawlings, stating that she has been a dependable and successful MP since 2017. It noted that her ability to secure her parliamentary seat three times as an opposition candidate was a significant achievement.

The foundation pleaded with Parliament to force the offending MP to own up to his mistakes and take back the inflammatory, vile, and shameful remarks.
