RACED Ghana condemns alleged vote-buying in Ayawaso East NDC primaries

Reach All Communities with Equitable Development (RACED Ghana), a Tamale-based non-profit organisation, has strongly condemned alleged incidents of vote-buying that reportedly occurred during the just-ended Ayawaso East National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries.

The organisation described the development as troubling and warned that such practices pose a serious threat to Ghana’s democratic values and the credibility of internal party elections.

According to the group, any attempt to influence voters with money or gifts undermines the spirit of free choice and fair competition that elections are meant to uphold.

The Finance and Administration Officer, Albert Achiri Wuni, issued a statement to expressed disappointment over the allegations, stressing that vote-buying erodes public confidence in the electoral process.

He noted that when money determines outcomes, competent and visionary leadership is often sidelined, while individuals with financial advantage dominate the political space. This, he said, weakens governance and promotes self-interest rather than service to the people.

RACED Ghana further emphasised that the effects of vote-buying extend beyond party primaries, warning that the practice could easily spill over into national elections if left unchecked.

The group explained that such acts entrench corruption, marginalise vulnerable communities, and distort democratic representation. It therefore called on political parties, the Electoral Commission, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen monitoring systems and enforce strict sanctions against individuals found engaging in electoral malpractice.

The organisation urged citizens to remain vigilant and actively participate in protecting the integrity of Ghana’s democracy.

It encouraged the public to report suspected cases of vote-buying, support civic education initiatives, and demand accountability from political leaders.

RACED Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, fairness, and responsible leadership, stressing that safeguarding the sanctity of the ballot is a collective responsibility that requires the involvement of all Ghanaians.
