Quartey to MMDAs: Ensure closure of all beaches during festive season

The move is in line with efforts to avert flouting of the COVID-19 protocols and also contain the spread of the viral disease during the  festivities

Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister has ordered for the closure of all beaches before and during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The move is in line with efforts to avert flouting of the COVID-19 protocols and also contain the spread of the viral disease during the  festivities.

It comes after a meeting by the Regional Security Council on Friday (24 December)  to discuss among other things the new Omicron variant  and its associated increase in positive cases in the past few days.

A statement issued by the Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council and signed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey also directed that all passengers without nose mask should not be allowed to board public transport.

Arrest and prosecute

It has therefore called on the MMDAs to ensure persons who violate the directives are arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
