Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, president of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, has urged the government and the domestic airlines to consider extending their operations to the Ho Airport.
The US$25 million airport was completed in 2016 but has since not been put to commercial use.Â
Speaking at the ongoing 5th Volta Trade Fair and Investment Fair in Ho, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV said the facility has the potential of becoming the hub of West Africa when put to use.Â
“It is about looking at the prospects of our airport. We have addressed this issue on various platforms and have suggested the possibility of turning it into a West African hub.Â
“I think the prospects for the Ho Airport to become a West African hub are quite bright. I want to live to see the day where we are going to have an event bigger than this and our visitors will come not only from Ghana but all across the world and will use the Ho airport as the originating point of their travel to this event. It is not impossible once we have the will, we will do it and get there.’’Â
He also suggested to the government to partner with private sectors in facelifting of roads leading to the region, this he believes will attract investors into the Volta Region.Â
According to him, roads can be built by private investors who will then toll these roads and get their investments over a period of time.
‘’Honourable minister my next appeal is about the roads to the region, I am sure we are all aware of the difficulties, that is why some of us will maintain that we are not expecting the government to do everything although the government can facilitate the creation of private sector involvement in road construction in the Volta region,’’ he added
