The 2025 edition of the Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Games has officially begun, bringing excitement and youthful energy to the campus of the Catholic University of Ghana in Fiapre, located in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region.
The week-long event is hosting student-athletes from seven private universities across the country in a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and cultural diversity.
The 16th edition of the annual festival promises intense competition, spirited collaboration, and the forging of lasting bonds among students from different backgrounds.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Ghana, Professor Daniel Obeng Ofori, emphasised the transformative power of sports in academic communities.
“Sports is not just about winning or losing; it’s about building bridges of peace, nurturing friendships, and fostering unity among young people,” he said. “Through these games, we create a platform where students grow together physically, mentally, and socially.”
The President of PUSAG, Ibrahim Issah, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the broader vision behind the games.
“Our goal is to promote unity and mutual respect among students from private universities,” he said. “We believe these games offer more than competition, they are a chance to learn life lessons, embrace diversity, and celebrate the spirit of togetherness that defines PUSAG.”
This year’s participating institutions include the host, Catholic University of Ghana, alongside Garden City University College, Nduom School of Business and Technology, Methodist University Ghana, Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Presbyterian University Ghana, and KAAF University College.
The games feature a variety of sporting disciplines including football, basketball, volleyball, and chess. These activities are not only designed to foster physical fitness but also to build leadership, teamwork, and resilience among the youth.
The opening football match set the tone for the week’s contests, as the host team, Catholic University, edged out Nduom School of Business and Technology with a narrow 1-0 victory.
The lone goal came from player number 3, Padmond Manu, who slotted in the winner to the delight of the home crowd.
With competition heating up and spirits running high, the 2025 PUSAG Games are poised to be a memorable showcase of youthful excellence, unity, and the enduring power of sport.
