Majority Caucus: We’ve not contemplated making changes to our leadership in Parliament

The caucus said it has confidence in the current leadership and that the status quo still remains

The Majority Caucus in Parliament says there have not been any changes to its leadership in the House as reported in the media.

The caucus said it has confidence in the current leadership and that the status quo still remains.

In a press briefing on Tuesday (20 February), the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu said, “… the publication that is going round is not true. It is false. The Majority Caucus has not made any changes in its leadership.

“The Majority Caucus has not contemplated in making changes to its leadership and that we tell the whole world and Ghana to ignore these publications.

“We want to assure you that we have confidence in the leadership as they are and the status quo shall remain,” he added.

There have been recent reports in the media suggesting that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) had made major changes to the leadership of the Majority Caucus in Parliament as part of preparations for the upcoming elections in December.

According to the publication, the Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, was expected to replace Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as the Majority Leader.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the current Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri will be promoted to the position of Deputy Majority Leader.

This would have also resulted in the advancement of Habib Iddrisu, the current First Deputy Whip, to move to the role of Majority Chief Whip.
