Wizkid concert fiasco: Ghanaians must blacklist errant artistes, says CPA boss

The Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) has called on Ghanaians to blacklist artistes who boycott their shows at the last minute over flimsy excuses.

CPA’s suggestion comes after global Afrobeats star, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, failed to show up at his live concert at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the development on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (12 December), the CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency Kofi Kapito said: “In Ghana there has been disrespect of patrons for too long.”

“We must respect the people who attend our events… their protection and interests must be primary above all else because they are the centre of these events; its success or failure depends on citizens,” he said.

“What kills me is that some Ghanaians will show up if this event is brought up again… I will never attend a show, which has previously disrespected me,” Kapito said.

He, however, called on event organisers to learn from the development to avert future occurrence.

“People who are doing events and promotions need to learn from this fiasco. Citizens should also respect themselves, especially when there is no respect from the other end; that is how things work elsewhere,” the CPA boss said.

Apology

Meanwhile, Wizkid has apologised to his fans in Ghana over his inability to show up at the much-talked about concert in Accra on Saturday (10 December).

“Ghana is a country I hold so dear to my heart,” Wizkid tweeted on Sunday. “First and foremost I wanna apologise to all my fans! Y’all know I would never do anything, without a serious reasoning behind it.”

He said there were safety and production concerns “that prevented me from putting on a high quality show that my fans deserve.”

Wizkid said he will make it up to his Ghanaian fans soon.

In a related development, event promoter, LiveHub Entertainment, has promised to refund monies for all paid tickets after Wizkid failed to perform at his headline concert at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The fans were highly disappointed in the organisers after the Nigerian superstar refused to honour the show.

According to LiveHub Nation, Wizkid breached his contractual obligation last night.

“We will issue FULL refunds to all who paid for tickets. Please send your barcode to thelivehuninfo@gmail.com,” the statement read.
