Prioritise national interest – VP Naana Jane to Council of State

The Vice President also believes strengthening the council’s impact will help counter perceptions that it is irrelevant.

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on members of the Council of State to play a more active role in shaping government policies to ensure transparency, equity, and national progress.

Speaking at an orientation programme for Council of State members at Peduase on Monday (24 February), she stressed that the country requires a reset, and the council’s advice to the President should always align with the interests of the Ghanaian people.

The Vice President also believes strengthening the council’s impact will help counter perceptions that it is irrelevant.

“Respectfully, you must therefore endeavour to contribute to the shaping of governance policy and ensure that major policy choices are meticulously guided by the principles of accountability, equity and long-term interest.

“Your tenure must redefine the council’s role, transforming it from a passively advisory body to an active institution that can anticipate challenges, offers bold recommendations and demand accountability”, she added.

Chairman of the Council, Edward Doe Adjaho, also urged members to leverage their influence to foster collaboration that serves the interests of all Ghanaians, especially the youth, rather than the political elite.

He further emphasized that their advice to the executive must be credible and grounded in truth, as Ghana deserves better leadership and governance.
