President’s lawyer mocks John Mahama for copying government’s campaign

According to Essuman, Mahama's campaign, which he has dubbed "Building the Ghana we want Together," is nothing more than a copycat of the current government's #BuildingGhanaTogether campaign

Kow Essuman, the legal counsel to President Akufo-Addo, recently took to Twitter to express his thoughts on former president John Dramani Mahama’s latest campaign.

According to Essuman, Mahama’s campaign dubbed, “Building the Ghana we want together,” is nothing more than a copycat of the current government’s #BuildingGhanaTogether campaign.

In a tweet that quoted Oscar Wilde, Essuman suggested that Mahama’s imitation was merely a form of flattery to the government’s successful initiative. However, it seems that not everyone is impressed by Mahama’s apparent lack of originality.

Netizens have been quick to criticise the former president, claiming that he has nothing new to offer the Ghanaian people, especially given the current economic struggles faced by the government.

Some have even gone as far as to suggest that Mahama is simply riding on the coattails of the government’s success, rather than coming up with his own innovative ideas to move Ghana forward.

With the election season fast approaching, it will be interesting to see how Mahama’s campaign develops and whether he can convince the Ghanaian people that he has something new and exciting to offer.

As the saying goes, imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in politics, it’s innovation that truly sets the great leaders apart.

Campaign launch

Mahama is expected to officially launch his bid to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress on Thursday (2 March) at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in the Volta Region.

Mahama last week picked nomination forms to contest as flagbearer of the NDC ahead of the party’s primaries in May.

“Fellow countrymen and women, I will on Thursday March 02, 2023 launch my bid to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the 2024 elections at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Sokode near Ho,” Mahama wrote on Facebook on Tuesday 28 February 2023.

“I invite you to either join me in the Cedi Auditorium at UHAS or watch a livestream of the launch on my Facebook page or YouTube channel from 9.00am,” Mahama added.
