Presidential jet in France for final airworthiness tests – Deputy Defence Minister

Ghana’s presidential aircraft, the Falcon 900 Executive Jet, is undergoing final tests in France after months of maintenance and repair works, Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi told Parliament on Thursday.

The aircraft, operated by the Ghana Air Force, was sent to Dassault Falcon Service in Le Bourget, France, on 11 March for a mandatory 24-month and 1,600-flying-hour inspection, a routine airworthiness requirement to ensure all maintenance and safety checks are completed.

“Mr. Speaker, the Falcon 900 executive aircraft was ferried to Dassault Falcon Service … for the 24-monthly and 1,600-flying-hours periodic inspection. This inspection is a mandatory airworthiness requirement that ensures that all main maintenance and due-list tasks compiled for the inspection are completed,” Genfi told lawmakers.

He said the jet’s return was initially delayed after corrosion spots were detected in the fuel tanks, which required extensive repairs. Additional fuel leakages were later identified in the right-hand wing tank, prompting further work.

Dassault Aviation invited the aircraft’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to assess the damage and assist with repairs, which have now been completed, according to the minister.

“Upon completion of the rectification, the aircraft will undergo a leak test of the fuel tanks, a third engine ground run, painting of the wing lower panel, and finally, an acceptance flight will be performed,” Genfi said.

He assured Parliament that the Falcon 900 will return to Ghana once all tests and safety certifications are finalized.
