Old Tafo: Two arrested over alleged murder of 27-year-old man

Reports remain sketchy about what triggered the incident that occurred last Wednesday (18 October), but Asaase News gathers that at least two people have been arrested by the Tafo Divisional Police Command

A 27-year-old man has died while two others are battling life-threatening wounds following a communal clash between the youth of Tafo and Adabraka-Zongo in the Ashanti Region.

Reports remain sketchy about what triggered the incident that occurred last Wednesday (18 October), but Asaase News gathers that at least two people have been arrested by the Tafo Divisional Police Command.

Already, the family of the deceased, Owusu Banahene, has urged the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“It’s the youth who have been having problems with Pankrono. They always come here, either to steal or fight. If something happens, they don’t know how to resolve their issue.”

“They always come and fight, and it has been going on for centuries. When they come, we call the police, and they come to arrest the person, and the next day the person is walking freely.

“We will not let it slide unless one of them dies too; the deceased was set to travel today to Canada, and every document was ready. And the next day, you guys just stabbed him. I was told that someone had stabbed him to death over an area fight,” he narrated.

He added, “I expect the police to arrest anyone involved or else actions that do not concern the police will take place. We will not sit down and allow our brother to be murdered just like that; if they don’t arrest all of them, action will be taken”.

Communal conflicts in these areas are rife, as most cases lead to loss of life and destruction of property.

Opinion leaders have called for improved security in the area.
