President John Dramani Mahama has announced that allowances for teacher and nursing trainees will now be processed through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to ensure prompt and consistent payments.
Speaking at a durbar at Jubilee Park in Tamale on Saturday as part of his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Northern Region, President Mahama assured students that this new arrangement would eliminate frequent delays in stipend disbursement.
“With this system in place, trainees will receive their allowances regularly, just as government employees are paid through the CAGD,” he stated.
Discussing key highlights from the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, President Mahama disclosed that the government had set aside funds to provide free sanitary pads for female students.
The initiative is designed to support young girls during their menstrual cycles and reduce school absenteeism.
He also reaffirmed his dedication to completing the Eastern Corridor Road, describing it as a critical infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation across the country.
President Mahama expressed profound gratitude to the people of the Northern Region for their unwavering support in the December Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, which secured victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Meanwhile, Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, urged the President to consider establishing a military barracks in Yendi.
He noted that the facility would be instrumental in addressing persistent conflicts along the Eastern Corridor and strengthening security in the region.
