President Mahama apologises to faith-based groups over education forum snub
His apology follows criticism from the GCBC and CCG, who expressed disappointment over their initial exclusion from the forum. In a statement issued on 17 February, the two groups called the omission a setback to inclusive discussions on education reform.

President John Dramani Mahama has issued an apology to faith-based organizations for the delay in inviting them to the National Education Consultative Forum, describing the oversight as “unpardonable.”
Addressing stakeholders in Ghana’s education sector at the forum on Tuesday (18 February), President Mahama extended his “sincerest apologies” on behalf of the planning committee to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG).
“I’m aware that the omission was quickly rectified, but you still deserve an unqualified apology for this oversight,” he stated. “And since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I’m sure that you have forgiven us.”
His apology follows criticism from the GCBC and CCG, who expressed disappointment over their initial exclusion from the forum. In a statement issued on 17 February, the two groups called the omission a setback to inclusive discussions on education reform.
They warned that education policies formulated without their input might fail to reflect the values and needs of many Ghanaians.
As key stakeholders overseeing hundreds of schools nationwide, the GCBC and CCG have historically played a significant role in shaping Ghana’s education system. They emphasized the need for broad representation in addressing challenges such as infrastructure deficits, teacher shortages, and unequal access to quality education.
President Mahama underscored the importance of inclusive dialogue, stating that the forum was designed to bring all stakeholders together to develop meaningful reforms.
The National Education Consultative Forum, which runs from 18-19 February, is expected to produce recommendations aimed at improving Ghana’s education system.
