Travellers in Ghana will soon enjoy extended flight options following a decision by aviation authorities to lengthen the operational hours at two of the country’s key regional airports.
Effective 1 June 2025, the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi and the Tamale International Airport will operate for longer each day, in a move aimed at enhancing accessibility and convenience for passengers.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) say the extension is part of a broader strategy to boost domestic air travel and improve regional connectivity.
Under the new arrangements, the Kumasi-based Prempeh I International Airport will remain open until 11:00pm – three hours later than its current 8:00pm closing time. The Tamale International Airport will now operate until 10:00pm, up from 6:00pm.
In a joint statement, the two institutions confirmed that a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to all airlines. “Domestic airlines have been advised to increase their frequency to and from both airports,” the statement said.
Authorities have urged the travelling public to take note of the new hours and plan accordingly.
The development is expected to support business travel and tourism in the Ashanti and Northern Regions, and may pave the way for expanded services in the near future.
