Pre-Christmas party: Asaase Foundation celebrates with children at Princess Marie Louise Hospital

The party was aimed at spreading cheer to children, especially patients of the PML Hospital suffering from malnutrition and other life-threatening health conditions

Asaase Broadcasting Company Ltd, in partnership with the Asaase Foundation, sponsored a pre-Christmas party and made donations to children at the Princess Marie Louise (PML) Hospital in Accra on Tuesday (12 December).

The party, an annual event, is organised by the Princess Marie Louise Hospital, familiarly known as the Children’s Hospital, for patients, schoolchildren in the vicinity and guests from partner institutions who were invited specially.

Speaking at the party, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Mame Yaa Adobea Nyarko, thanked all of PML’s stakeholders, including the Asaase Foundation, for their support over the years.

Staff and patrons at the Princess Marie Louise Hospital/Children’s Hospital 2023 Christmas party (12 December) included Father Andrew Campbell and Mame Yaa Nyarko, medical superintendent of the hospital

“We thank God for how far he has brought us,” she said. “Yet, with all the blessings, the hospital continues to have some challenges.

“We have serious infrastructure repairs that need urgent attention. The hospital also needs painting and making the environment more child-friendly.”

She pleaded with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and policymakers to help expand the hospital’s services and improve health-care provision for children.

“We need more space to be able to add on some other services that will help our children and to also provide care for our adolescents.

“We have a big gap that affects the hospital negatively and so we are asking our health service policymakers to help us retain our staff.”

Meanwhile, the administrator of the Asaase Foundation, Gifty Boafo, pledged the team’s steadfast support to the hospital.

“Last year, when we were called upon, we were excited to help the children because, aside from our Kidney Care Campaign, we support the marginalised, children and women. So, we are excited to be here.

“We made a pledge to do this annually and we are glad that this year we can also be part of your party.

“Last year, when we were here, we made a pledge to support the malnourished children’s wards and later today we will be making a donation to the ward,” Boafo said.

Asaase Radio and the Asaase Foundation donated detergent, clothes, food processors, a fridge and many other items to the Princess Marie Louise Hospital at the end of Tuesday’s event.
