Berekum police rescue 24-year-old driver from mob attack

When the police arrived at the scene, the mob had already set the car ablaze and subjected Kyeremeh to severe beatings

The timely intervention of the police at Berekum in the Bono Region saved a 24-year-old driver from a mob attack.

The angry mob nearly lynched the driver, Christopher Kyeremeh, when he crashed into three tricycles with an unregistered Toyota Camry, killing one person instantly and injuring six others.

When the police arrived at the scene, the mob had already set the car ablaze and subjected Kyeremeh to severe beatings.

A reliable police source said the incident occurred around 9am on Sunday 21 May. The body of the deceased, Gloria Owusu ā€“ 17-year-old ā€“, has been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital for perseveration and autopsy.

The six injured victims are on admission, receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The source told the Ghana News Agency, on condition of anonymity, that Kyeremeh was arraigned before the Berekum Magistrate Court on Monday (22 May).

He has been remanded in police custody to reappear on 2 June.
