A survey carried out by the e-commerce firm Pop out Ghana shows that political parties and politicians spent GHC1.3 million ($234,496) on Facebook adverts before the 7 December elections.
The survey, which was carried out between August and December 2020, reveals the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Mahama, was the highest spender on Facebook adverts.
The survey also reveals that people in the Greater Accra Region spent a total of US$121,932 advertising on Facebook.
Analysts believe the expenditure pattern was due to the restriction on large gatherings by groups such as political parties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Below is a report on the survey.
