Ofosu Kwakye loses Abora Asebu Kwamankese contest by 176 votes

Felix Ofosu Kwakye of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the Abura Asebu Kwamankese race to the incumbent Elvis Morris Donkor

Felix Ofosu Kwakye, former Deputy Communications Minister, has lost the Abura Asebu Kwamankese seat in the Central Region to incumbent New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament, Elvis Morris Donkor by 176 votes.

Speaking in an interview with Kojo Mensah on the Asaase Breakfast Show, the incumbent MP said the NPP’s performance did the trick.

“It is about the work that have been done in the constituency, looking at my term as an MP for the area, we have achieved so much comparing our four years to the eight years of the previous government, we have done excessively well,” he said.

Donkor added: “In Abura Asebu Kwamankese, we have won two elections in terms of parliamentary, when it comes to presidential, we have never won in the constituency before.”

Presidential feat

According to him, the party has made some inroads in the constituency after winning the presidential race for the first time.

“This is the first time that the NPP as a party has actually won the presidential election in the constituency, so it is a good news for the party and the people. Going into my next term I am going to do so much for my people and the youth in the area of youth employment,” Donkor stated.

“In my next four years, I need to work harder to gain the trust of my people, for me I will always open my door to him [Ofosu Kwakye], and also to the opposition party, wherever I am working in the constituency it is not for the NPP alone,” he added.

He further used the opportunity to extend an invitation to Kwakye to come on board and help develop the constituency.

Kwakye has since the announcement of result conceded defeat. He wrote on his Facebook: “It was so close yet so far for me. I lost by 176 votes. Congratulations Elvis Morris Donkor and better luck to me next time.”
