The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has responded to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying it won the Techiman South seat in the 7 December parliamentary elections.

The NDC is claiming the seat, which was declared in favour of the NPP by the Electoral Commission. However, the latter said the former is only resorting to ā€œlies and propagandaā€ to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians.

ā€œIt is important to state upfront that the NPP parliamentary candidate for Techiman South won that election and so declared by the EC [Electoral Commission],ā€ Peter Mac Manu, the campaign manager for the NPP, said at a press conference.

Pink sheet evidence

Mac Manu said that, according to the pink sheets available to the party, the NPP polled 49,682 votes in the Techiman South election, against the NDCā€™s 49,205 votes. The NDC earlier announced that it had won the seat, securing 50,306 votes while the NPP won 50,013, with 919 rejected ballots.

ā€œWe speak to set the record straight as against a multitude of lies peddled by the NDC yesterday,ā€ Mac Manu said. ā€œIt is important to expose the lies, deceit, propaganda and political shenanigans of the NDC since the process towards the 2020 general elections began.

ā€œThe NDC has always sensed that they will lose the elections and so, from the beginning of the year, they have constantly been pinning the integrity of the EC.ā€

Mahama dares EC

Meanwhile, the NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has challenged the Electoral Commission in a Facebook post to publish its results summary sheet and pink sheets for Techiman South.

He further accused the EC of conniving with PresidentĀ Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to subvert the will of the electorate by unlawfully declaring Techiman South seat for the NPP.

ā€œI salute all who have had courage to call out the EC and the Nana Akufo-Addo administration in this brazen act of trampling on the democratic will of the people.

ā€œI want to restate our challenge to the EC, to come out and show Ghanaians their results summary sheet and pink sheets for the Techiman South constituency,ā€ Mahama said.
