NPP poised to snatch Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam parliamentary seat from NDC

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will unseat the NDC's Dr. Cassiel Forson in the parliamentary race at Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will invest all necessary effort and resources to annex the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam parliamentary seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on 7 December.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson of the NDC has been occupying the seat since 2008. He is offering himself again for a fourth term in office in the 2020 general elections.

However, after 12 years of failing to recapture the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency, Dr Rashid Kwesi Etuaful of the NPP is making impact in the constituency and he is already sending a strong signal of his determination to defeat Forson.

On 12 November 2020 as part of the NPP’s “Boots on Grounds” initiative, the deputy Campaign Manager of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, in the company of Chief Strategist of the NPP, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, and other party bigwigs, stormed the constituency to boost the efforts of the party’s foot soldiers, who say they are firmly on course to snatch the seat.

First Stop

The team first visited and interacted with the staff of the Ghana National Fire Service, at the Breman Essiam Fire Station. The visibly excited Station officer and staff of the station indicated that the visit was the first of its kind by any Parliamentary Candidate since 1992 to their office premises. They indicated that the Service is in urgent need of a new office building to replace what they are currently using, which was built by the country’s colonial masters before independence. The team promised to take their concerns to the appropriate authorities for consideration.

Interaction at the Essiam market

The team’s next stop was the Essiam market. They interacted with the market women, distributed hand sanitizers as part of efforts on the part of the Party to ensure that the populace observe COVID-19 protocols.

Addressing Muslim Leaders

The team subsequently addressed a gathering of market heads and Muslim leaders in the Constituency. Deputy Campaign Manager of the NPP and Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development, Hamid, said the NDC having had the better part of the 28 years of the Fourth Republic cannot be credited with any of the profound social interventions that have directly benefited the people of Ghana. He said policies such as free maternal health care, Metro Mass Transit, One Village One Dam, Free SHS, One District One Factory, National Health Insurance, School Feeding, among others have all been introduced in the country by the NPP.

To this end, he urged the people of Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam constituency to vote massively for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s parliamentary candidate.

Direct Appeal

Otchere-Darko, on his part, noted that the Akufo-Addo-led government over the last three years and 10 months has managed the resources of the nation prudently. The administration he said has cleaned up the financial mess it inherited from the John Mahama government and has set the country up on a path to progress.
