NPP holds thanksgiving service to climax election win

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold an interdenominational national thanksgiving service on Sunday 27 December for a peaceful election

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will close year 2020 with an interdenominational national thanksgiving service to give glory to God for winning the general elections held on 7 December.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo once again defeated his closest rival, John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), by 51.59% of valid votes cast to secure a second term in office.

The thanksgiving is slated for Sunday, 27 December.

“The 2020 general elections have, rightly so, been hailed across the globe and described by both domestic and international elections observers as the most peaceful and transparent elections in the country’s recent history.

“It is in recognition of this historic milestone that the party is holding this Interdenominational Service to thank the Almighty for his unending grace and blessings to the Republic,” general secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, said in a statement.

It added: “Other relevant details of the Thanksgiving Service including venue and time will soon be communicated to the general public.”

Meanwhile, the party, on Friday, 11 December 2020, held Islamic Thanksgiving Prayers at the Abossey Okai Central Mosque with the National Chief Imam. The President and Vice President-elect as well as the leadership of the NPP were in attendance.

Government back to work

Meanwhile, the government has resumed work after the declaration of results of the general elections by the Electoral Commission, Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said.

Speaking at the Minister’s Press Briefing in Accra, the Minister emphasized that government remains determined to wrap up its mandate for the year and hence, that informs its decision to get back to work right after the declaration of the general elections.

“President Akufo-Addo and his appointees are already back to work a day after the declaration of results for the presidential election to wrap up government business for the year. The President after his declaration as President-elect by the electoral commission, has been back at work today, performing his official duties at the (Jubilee House) while he continues to receive congratulatory messages from colleague heads of state from in and around the continent,” he said.
