The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its campaign at Ejura Constituency in the Ashanti Region for a week, following the death of seven of its members in a gory motor crash over the weekend.
The Deputy General Secretary for the opposition party in the constituency, Samuel Kwa-Sam, told Asaase Radio’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Jonathan Ofori, the period will be used to mourn the bereaved.
“Going forward, I know for accidents day in and day out they are natural and, according to reports, they were trying to dodge pot holes and the brake failed,” he said.
“The immediate solution is to fix our road networks and going forward I must admit that the cargo car and other cars we are using is not helping, but it is not our fault looking at where they are coming from, cars cannot go there.”
Kwa-Sam added: “The executives as we speak, we are numbering over 20, and I am at the hospital now… I think everything is stable now and the promise to foot their bill has been done.”
According to him, eight out of the 52 persons involved in the accident over the weekend, have been referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and Duayaw-Nkwanta Hospitals.
At least seven persons died in the crash involving a truck carrying NDC supporters at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred at Frante near the Ejura/Sekyedumase constituency of the Ashanti Region Saturday – 24 hours after a similar incident occurred in the New Edubiase constituency.
