Mahama suspends tour of registration centres over COVID-19

The NDC flagbearer wanted to visit selected centres in Accra and Tema unannounced but has decided to put his plans on hold

The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Mahama, has suspended plans to tour voter registration centres in the capital.

The former president said the reason for his decision was the lack of adherence to safety protocols.

In a posting on Facebook, Mahama said he had observed low awareness of COVID-19 protocols at registration centres in Accra and Tema. Wearing of face masks and social distainge were not being enforced at most centres, he said.

Call for more education

Mahama argued that the lack of awareness at registration centres calls for further public education on COVID-19.

This, the NDC flagberarer said, would help to make Ghanaians realise how best they can reduce the risk of contracting the disease.

President Akufo-Addo is out of isolation after he elected to go on a 14-day period in quarantine.

Akufo-Addo returned to full-time work on Monday 19 July 2020, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced.
