It was a keenly fought contest between two candidates, Issah Fuseini (the incumbent) and Kenneth Kuranchie, publisher of the Daily Searchlight newspaper. In the 2015 primaries there were four candidates contesting.

Kuranchie was running for the third time. In the 2015 primaries he won 141 votes, coming second to Fuseini’s 284. The other candidates were Seth Adjei Baah (104) and Francisca Anyorkor Boateng (12).

Fuseini went ahead to win the seat in the 2016 general election, polling 28,083 votes – 54% of the total votes share – beating the NDC’s candidate, Abdul Razak Issah, by a margin of 9 points.

At the end of today’s polls, Fuseini retained the ticket with 305 votes to Kuranchie’s 284.

It seems Kuranchie put in a great deal of effort to pull in supporters of Seth Adjei and Francisca Boateng, and managed to close the gap to just 21 votes but did not quite succeed in overtaking his old rival.
