Early closing at Fumbisi Market begins after murder

Builsa South District Assembly announces a curfew on trading hours after the killing of a young man

Builsa South District in the Upper East Region is beginning early closing at Fumbisi Market from today after a district security meeting.

The decision, reached last week, is in response to the murder of a young man, believed to be in his twenties, in the Central Business District on 20 May.

The announcement came in a statement signed by Honourable Daniel Kwame Gariba, chief executive officer of Builsa South District Assembly. Farina said the statement was intended to mitigate any security threat to residents in the Fumbisi area.

Stay calm

“All participants of the Fumbisi Market must wrap up their activities and leave the market by 6pm,” the statement said. All food vendors and bars were instructed to follow the same orders.

“The directive takes effect from Tuesday 26 May until further notice,” it added.

The president’s directive making it mandatory to wear a mask in public at all times is still in force, the statement said. All traders and residents are entreated to comply until a permanent cure and a vaccine for the coronavirus are found.

The assembly assured members of the public that the security agencies in Fumbisi will not relent in their efforts and will soon arrest the perpetrator and any accomplices to face the full rigours of the law.

It further urged residents to remain calm and supply the security agencies with relevant information that will facilitate the arrest of the murderer and his accomplice.

The assembly also used the opportunity to express its condolences to the bereaved family.
