Ejura killings: NDC to embark on demonstration on 6 July

The NDC says protesters will demand answers for the families of the men recently killed in Ejura and seek social justice for all unemployed young people in Ghana

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will hold a national demonstration to present a petition to the president demanding justice for civilians abused or killed by security personnel.

In a statement signed by George Opare Addo, the national youth organiser of the NDC, and dated 30 June 2021, the NDC said it will be protesting on 6 July 2021 from 8am to midday.

It aims to force the government to deliver justice for all killings and mishandling of citizens by personnel of the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces and also to seek social justice for all unemployed youth in the country.

“This letter is sent your way in line with the Public Order Act. The act (491) stipulates that the police be notified under Section (1) of any special event within the meaning of the Public Order Act,” the statement says.

“The protest is to demand justice for all persons killed and brutalised by state-sponsored thuggery and/or adventurism by police and military forces. It also seeks social justice for the unemployed youth in the country,” the party says.

“We will meet at the Jubilee House to present a petition to the President of the Republic, to the Inspector General of Police at the police head office and the Speaker of Parliament at Parliament House. We are willing to meet with the police for further discussions on the subject matter,” the statement says.
