Dumelo: I will commit half of my salary to youth development

The NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon says the move would create jobs for the many unemployed young people in the constituency

Ghana News Agency (Accra) – John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, says he will commit 50% of his salary to youth development in the Accra constituency if voters choose him on 7 December.

He said the move will create jobs for young people in the constituency.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC Ayawaso West Wuogon campaign in Accra, Dumelo presented sewing machines and hairdryers to various constituents to help them build their vocational and technical skills and earn them a sustainable livelihood.

The event attracted political dignitaries and sympathisers of the party.

“I have ventured into mushroom farming in the constituency and those initiatives will help create jobs for the teeming youth the area,” Dumelo said.

“Our plan is to create jobs for everyone, in every way that we can,” he added. “Opportunities must be spread across. This is the reason we have started mushroom farms in Ayawaso West.”

He said the youth needed encouragement and recognition to realise their dreams and expressed himself ready to assist to make them productive citizens. He promised to establish a local football team to help create further job opportunities for the youth in sports.

Dumelo, also a movie actor, said he had sponsored the tapping of water to Bawaleshie so that residents could benefit from the government’s free water policy and observe the COVID-19 protocols. He pledged to stay in touch with the grass roots so that he can appreciate their needs and find solutions to them.

Unity of purpose

He called for peace and unity in the party, stressing that the NDC needs a strong sense of unity of purpose to win the December election.

Dumelo urged party members to remain vigilant and to monitor voting processes before, during and after the elections to as to prevent anything untoward happening.

Ade Coker, the chairman of the NDC in the Greater Accra Region, officially introduced Dumelo as the parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon.

He urged constituents to vote for him to bring development to the area.
