Court stops NDC from protesting on 5 January in Central Region

The prohibition order which was granted on 31 December has been served on executives of the NDC

A High Court has stopped the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from demonstrating in the Effutu Constituency of the Central Region.

Securing a prohibition order from the Cape Coast High Court, the police want to stop the largest opposition party in the nation from demonstrating against what they termed “a flawed election” held on 7 December.

The protest which was expected to take place on 5 January, according to the police, will create inconveniences in the constituency.

The police further argued they do not have the requisite numbers to protect the protestors in the wake of the festive season, as well as, the upcoming inauguration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 7 January.

The NDC executives in the constituency have been served with the order.

Read a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong, explaining the development.
