Bawumia swears in Internal Audit, Civil and Audit Service boards
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has sworn into office the governing councils of the Internal Audit Agency, Civil Service and Audit Service
The Vice President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has sworn into office the governing councils of three State institutions, namely the Internal Audit Agency, the Ghana Civil Service and the Ghana Audit Service.
At a ceremony held at the banquet hall of the Jubilee House, on the 12th of November 2021, Dr Bawumia first swore in the Civil Service governing council, followed by the governing council of Internal Audit, and the Audit Service governing board.
Internal Audit
In his address to the governing council of the Internal Audit Service after administering two oaths, the oath of office and the oath of secrecy, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia charged the body to do all within their mandate to support government’s efforts aimed at protecting the public purse.
“If we can win the fight against corruption, a whole lot depends on internal auditors and audit committees. I have also taken not of the agency’s agenda of implementing corruption prevention measures which have already lead to saving nearly 387 million Ghana cedis to government in just 2020”.
“I am also aware that through the work of the agency, audit committees and internal audit units across the country, audit infractions reported by the Auditor General in 2020 reduced by 32% for MDAs, 34% for MMDAs, 92% for technical universities and 38% for the District Assembly Fund and other statutory funds. This is highly commendable, well done” Vice President Bawumia said.
“I urge the board to continue to pursue measures to reduce annual infractions reported by the Auditor General. The naming and shaming of institutions which fail to submit their audit work plans and reports for 2020/ 2021, also caught my attention”.
“I encourage the board to ensure that defaulting institutions also compile with internal audit requirements under Ghana’s PFM Act” he added.
7th Civil Service Governing Board
To the 7th Civil Service governing board, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia charged them to deepen the efforts of the 6th board which was aimed at shaping the Ghana Civil Service into a world class service.
“The global economy is adopting at a fast rate to a world that is facing a mired of challenges including technological innovations in the process and delivery of public goods”.
“It goes without saying that the administrative wing of government machinery, the Ghana Civil Service, must position itself to remain relevant amidst these emerging trends” the Vice President said.
“The Civil Service staff must adopt to the swift pace required for the implementation of government policies and programmes to improve the lives of our people”.
“It is for this reason that I ask this distinguished council to provide the needed direction to continue with the reforms to improve the culture of service delivery and the work output of the Ghana Civil Service” he added.
Veep to the Audit Service
Addressing the Audit Service board, the Vice President indicated that the board is a major stakeholder in the fight against corruption in Ghana. To this end, the Vice President charged the new board and the management of the Audit Service to work hard to improve audit efficiency in the country.
He also commended the Audit Service of its high level efficiency in the year 2020, which saw the service submit 12 statutory reports to Parliament before the constitutional deadline of 30th June, as well as five (5) performance reports also to Parliament, making it a total of 17 reports for the 2020 financial year. “This is very remarkable, well done” the Vice President said
Chairpersons Response
The Chairpersons for the three governing councils, Justice Rose Constance Owusu (Rtd), for the Civil Service board, Mr. Joseph B. Winful, for the Internal Audit board and Prof. Edward Duah Agyeman, for the Audit Service board, all pledged to work extremely hard within the law, to make their various institutions more efficient and effective than they have ever been.

Audit Service Board
The Audit Service governing council has Prof. Edward Duah Agyeman, as it chairman. The members of the board are Dr. Charles Agyenim Boateng, Mr. Dennis Kwadjo Young Vormawor, Mr. Emmmanuel Mainoo Owusu-Ansah, Mad. Rebecca Delong Fosu, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu and Nana Kwasi Agyekum-Dwamena.
