Akufo-Addo asks Christians to pray for peaceful elections

Ghanaians will be going to the polls on 7 December to elect a president and parliamentarians to steer the affairs of the country in the next four years

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has asked Ghanaians to dedicate Sunday’s (6 December) Church Service across the country to pray and seek God’s intervention for a peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections on Monday 7 December.

A statement issued and signed by Pius Enam Hadzide, Deputy Information Minister, said this is crucial despite the various measures in place to ensure a successful election.

It said: “The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has requested the Christian community to dedicate Sunday’s church service to pray for peaceful elections as the nation heads to the polls on Monday, December 7, 2020.”

“This request is in line with the President’s belief that we are all the Lord’s, and notwithstanding the fact that all the arrangements necessary for peaceful polls have been made, the intervention of the Almighty is still absolutely crucial,” the statement added.

Ghanaians will be going to the polls on Monday, 7 December to elect a president and parliamentarians to steer the affairs of the country in the next four years.

President Akufo-Addo and his main contender John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress on Friday signed a peace pact to commit to ensuring a peaceful election.

This is the third time the two main contenders in Ghana’s recent elections have signed the peace pact.

In 2012, the two signed the peace pact which saw now opposition leader John Mahama winning the polls, that was subsequently followed by another in 2016, bringing Akufo-Addo to power.
