Ahenkorah is still favourite in Tema West, says NPP chairman

The chairman of the NPP in Tema West, Dennis Amfo-Sefah, says the party’s parliamentary candidate, Carlos Ahenkorah, remains the favourite in the constituency

The Tema West chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Amfo-Sefah, says NPP’s local parliamentary candidate, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, remains the favourite to win the seat for the party even though his opponents have tagged his campaign “The Coronavirus Mishap”.

Amfo-Sefah, speaking to the Ghana News Agency, said that using the coronavirus as a basis to campaign against Ahenkorah, the incumbent MP, was only meant to enable his detractors in Tema West to score cheap political points.

“The politics of coronavirus is such a lame attempt that one cannot help but wonder if those behind the propaganda are serious at all. Honourable Carlos Ahenkorah is the best Tema West parliamentary candidate for the 2020 election and that is sealed in stone,” he said.

He gave his assurance that the local party would widen its margin of victory over the National Democratic Congress in both the parliamentary and presidential elections in December.

Amfo-Sefah debunked media reports that unhappy party members had demanded Ahenkorah’s removal as the local parliamentary candidate because he had contracted the coronavirus. Such reports were unfounded, he said.

“Ignore the propaganda”

He said the candidate had twice tested negative for the coronavirus and been duly declared recovered by the Ghana Health Service.

Amfo-Sefah urged the public to ignore such propaganda and rally for “4 more for Nana and Carlos Ahenkorah to do more”.

Ahenkorah resigned as a deputy minister of trade and industry following public outcry against his visit to local voter registration centres even though he knew that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He has since been treated and has tested negative for the virus.
