Ashanti Region: Police visibility to increase as REGSEC tackles MoMo vendor robberies

To further safeguard vendors, REGSEC will organize a safety workshop to educate MoMo operators on precautionary measures for their business.

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (AREGSEC) has announced plans to boost police presence across the region in response to the rising attacks on Mobile Money (MoMo) vendors.

The move is part of a broader strategy to curb criminal activities and ensure public safety.

Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene disclosed that security forces will be redeployed to enhance surveillance, while law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to clamp down on unregistered motorcycles, often used in such crimes.

A bounty has been placed on suspects, with authorities urging the public to provide credible information leading to their arrest.

New wave

Last month, a 27-year-old MoMo vendor, Patricia Nimako, was shot dead at Krofrom, with her attackers escaping with GH¢10,000 and mobile phones.

Additionally, another vendor was murdered at Amansie Asaman under similar circumstances.

The police is also searching for attackers of a 27-year-old MoMo vendor who was robbed and killed at Soldier-Line in the Kwadaso Municipality.

No arrest have been made.

The recent killings have left inhabitants in fear, calling for urgent security measures.

Other strategies

To further safeguard vendors, REGSEC will organize a safety workshop to educate MoMo operators on precautionary measures for their business.

Dr. Amoakohene, in a Facebook post, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling the issue and restoring confidence in the mobile money trade.
