The police seized 397 slabs of suspected cannabis concealed in charcoal bags after a tricycle accident in Techiman, Bono East Region, authorities said on Tuesday.
The 48-year-old tricycle rider, Robert Tannor, was transporting 14 bags of charcoal when his unregistered Motor King tricycle collided with a stationary truck near Techiman Methodist Park on 8 March, the Bono East Regional Police Command said in a statement.
Officers responding to the crash discovered the compressed slabs hidden among the charcoal. Tannor suffered severe leg injuries and was admitted to Holy Family Hospital under police guard.
Police said the truck involved in the incident left the scene and appealed to the public to help trace the driver to aid ongoing investigations.
The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by Ghanaian authorities to curb illicit drug trafficking in the country.
